Hogmanay up a (very wee) hill this year - with great views of the Wallace Monument (and hopefully some local fireworks - Stirling Council have confirmed there will be no official fireworks from the Wallace Monument this year).
It is about 300 metres from the listing parking coordinates (with just 20 metres of ascent) to the top of Gowan Hill. The event coordinates are for the bench immediately to the left of the Beheading Stone (as you're standing facing the stone). I've not been up here at Hogmanay before but I would think there will be other people enjoying the view too - hopefully enough room for us all though! I'd recommend a torch (of course) and walking boots as the path up can be a bit muddy. You may also want to bring a camping type chair if you fancy a seat with a view.
So wrap up warm and bring along a flask of what you fancy, I'll bring some shortbread/tablet and together we can welcome in the New Year. I'll decorate my rucksack with fairy lights so will hopefully be easy to spot.
