Geocache Description:

This is part of a 5-cache series, located on the Coastal Science Campus of UC Santa Cruz. The 5 caches are themed around larval fish ecology. Pick up a geocache "passport" at the front desk of the Seymour Marine Discovery Center (100 McAllister Way). If you locate all 5 caches, you can turn in your passport to the front desk for a commemorative wooden token! Have fun learning about baby fishes!

Note that the Seymour Center is open 10 AM-4PM Tuesday-Sundays (open Mondays in the summertime, check the website for the most up-to-date information). All parking lots are enforced by ParkMobile/UC Santa Cruz -- parking is enforced 8AM-5 PM Monday-Friday; parking is free on weekends/holidays, and in Lot 207 at the entrance to the Coastal Science Campus.

This first geocache is located on Shipwreck Deck, the south-facing patio of the Seymour Center. Shipwreck Deck got its name from 2 shipwrecks that happened here in 1924. You can still see the mast from on of the boats: the La Feliz, sticking up in the rocks.

If you are trying to locate this cache outside of the Seymour Center's open hours, there is a short path from the Coastal Bluff trail that leads to Shipwreck Deck. Please do not enter this area if you see an event occurring, as this space can be rented out for weddings, etc. in the evenings. If you would like to access this cache without paying admission to the Seymour Center during our open hours, please alert the front desk staff that you want to find Cache #1, and they will escort you directly to Shipwreck Deck.
