Vin's Track - Wenderholm Regional Park
Welcome to Vin's Track, in the picturesque Wenderholm Regional Park. Vin's Track seems to be one of the lessor used tracks in the park, but it is a pleasant little track that offers fantastic views over the park and the Puhoi River.
Wenderholm Regional Park was created in 1965 as Auckland's first Regional Park, after the Auckland Regional Authority (now Auckland Council) purchased the land from the Couldrey Family. A second block of land was purchased from the Schischka family in 2002, increasing the size of the park. Vin's Track is located in this newer part of the park and was named after Uncle Vincent Schischka, the last Schischka descendant to farm the land.
The track is a 2.2km/30minute loop and is classed by the Council as a tramping grade track. Over the winter, the track can be muddy and slippery in places, but over the summer it should be fine. The easiest approach would be to start at the Trailhead 1 waypoint and do the caches in numerical order from VT1 to VT5, as that would avoid most of the mud.
I've marked the most convenient carpark, next to the toilets, but there is more carparking available as you drive into the park. From the parking waypoint, just walk along the road into the campground. The gates to the park are open 6am to 7pm in the winter and 6am to 9pm in the summer.
