This slope is located on the south side of Tokyo Institute of Technology.
It is said that the origin of the slope is that there used to be Shinmeisha Shrine,
the guardian shrine of the village, near the slope, so it came to be called Shinmeizaka.
Shinmeisha is Ishikawa Shrine, which is located on the right side as you go down this slope.

坂の由来は、以前坂のそばに，村の鎮守の神明社があったので，神明坂 というようになったと伝えられています。
また 神明社は，この坂を下り、右側にある石川神社の事です。
