Geocache Description:

Drayton Methodist Cemetery...

This is a wonderful little pioneer cemetery, located in the village of Drayton, circa 1858.  I pass it many times every week. The country line on which it is located, is a major route from the northern parts of the Wellington County to the southern counterparts.

I so wish these old places could speak, they would tell many stories of hope, fear, hardship and faith.  Many of the names on its headstones are still known within the community today.

The Lesson ... Pioneer Cemeteries

Pioneer Cemeteries are places of memory, remembering those that came before us. As such a place of high respect and value for geocachers, at least in my humble opinion. Generally, the sites are accessible and people are encouraged to visit and learn somethings about those from the past. If you stop and look at the headstones, you can glimpse a little into a different time. A time for which we have little appreciation for today.

The following should be considered when placing a geocache in a cemetery or pioneer cemetery:

1. Generally add a "no night-caching" statement out of respect to the site and for any neighbours

2. Generally don't hide a geocache at the headstones themselves, but on a structure, plant, tree, fence, abandoned structure, etc...

3. I like to record interesting facts about the pioneer cemetery so people can learn about it

4. Also note that I changed my "Placed-by" name from "dastardly_drkxz" - my geo-name - to "dastardly_one", or anything I wish, but when the "Placed-by" link is clicked, it will jump to your dashboard.
