Geocache Description:

Hello geocachers! Have I got a story for you! Nestled along Standing Stone Creek, in Blair Park, lives a cryptid like you’ve never seen before! Trust me.

The Native Americans called it Takojawi (He Who Breathes Fire). Early settlers called it Emberquack. Scientists call it Ignitius Duckus. I call it a Fire-breathing Dragon Duck.

Not many people know about this creature. They are ULTRA rare and hardly ever seen in the wild. I just happen to know their mating call and lured this one out. When it saw me, it was pretty upset. It spat a little fire at me, but their range is terrible and it missed. It quickly flew off, and I pursued it.

I was able to follow it all the way to an old tree stump along the trail. I knew it had to be the duck’s nest. They always run to their nest when they feel threatened, and they prefer to nest in old tree stumps.

The strangest part about this encounter was that I noticed a small geocache container in the duck’s feathery grasp. It was so small it probably only had a log in it and seemed as though tweezers may help in getting it out.

Even though I knew where the duck was hiding, and it was defenseless, I decided not to bother it. Instead, I’m sharing my experience with you, so you can see this creature for yourself.

It should be fairly easy to find the duck. When you get to the posted coordinates, you will see two stumps. The duck is nesting in the smaller of the two stumps. I wouldn’t recommend reaching in blindly; it’s a fire duck for Pete’s sake. Instead, try to call it out first. Use the duck’s mating call, which is “flar-ooh-eei, flar-ooh, flar-ahh-ahh.” It should come out of hiding if your pitch is high enough.

Be safe and happy caching!

CONGRATULATIONS to r.e.s.t.seekers and ted28285 on being the FTF!
