Greenmount Cemetery is located in Arendtsville and contains the final resting place of many of its original settlers, including John Jacob Arendt who was born in Germany on 24 March 1730 and laid to rest on 13 November 1802. It is among the oldest markers found. John Jacob, along with other family members are thought to be the oldest settlers in the area and for whose family the town was named for. His home was built in 1790 and he operated a tavern from that location. His wife, Catharina, is nearby as well as their 5 children. His siblings are also nearby.
This is still an active cemetery today, though is quiet and peaceful surrounded by some of Arendtsville's famous apple orchards.
A waypoint for the access road is included, as well as the location of John Jacob and Catharina - if you'd like to visit. Please be sure to replace cache exactly as found so that it stays in place.
As always, please be stealthy and respectful - taking only photos and leaving only footprints.
