Tarryall Canyon is such a beautiful and amazing place, which also happens to be home to the oldest Geoccache in Colorado: GC18. I figured the surrounding open space could use a few new hides for others to seek out on their pilgrimage to Tarryall. Today I enjoyed two separate "Rock Scramble" hides by Granitegrabber and figured one more in the area couldn't hurt. You have two options to park, with the easiest near the main road-CR77. The second harder parking spot which requires AWD/4x4 is located closer to where you'll begin your climb (see reference point).
Even though beginning from the reference point to GZ is less than 500 feet away, it's not an easy climb so take your time. There is no trail to speak of, just a steady trudge to the top. You are searching for a large well stocked "Nut Jug" hidden in a rock cave near the peak, please make sure to rehide it exactly as you found it. Adequate footwear, water, hiking pole and layered clothing are always a good thing to consider as well as the fact the cache resides at almost 9,000 feet. Pro Tip: Best to download the coordinates offline as there is virtually zero cell service in the valley. Have fun, be safe and overall enjoy this special place.
