Helder Park is a nice place to have a quick and quiet walk. There are trails through the fields, but I prefer the ones near wooded areas. If you have not found any of the caches in this park, there are enough to keep you busy for a while. Many of us pop over here every so often when a new one gets published.
To find this, you must follow directions. It is like a letterbox, but without a stamp.
This adventure will take you on about a 0.8 mile walk around the park. Along the way it will take you close to some other caches in the park.
From the parking area there are three paved paths to choose from; take the one to the left. Pretty soon you’ll come to a bridge. Continue across the bridge. As you approach the baseball diamonds the trail will split. Take the path to the right. You will be walking along the outfield fence of the nearby baseball diamond. When you get to the parking lot, keep to the right. Soon you will see another bridge. Take the trail across the bridge.
Now keep to the right. You will soon pass by the dog park. Stay on the paved path past the dog park and then, when you get to a fork, take the path to the right. At the next fork again keep to the right. You should be walking towards a play structure at this point. At the play structure turn left towards the parking lot. When you pass the building on your left, take another right. The play structure should be on your right. At the next intersection keep to the right so that you are now walking towards the tennis courts. When you get there take the path to the left.
We are almost there! Bear to your right and look around - you should be approaching a path that leads downhill. Take this path until you get to the water. Now you must answer a question: is the stream moving from left to right or right to left? If left to right then remember to turn right when you are told to. If right to left remember to go left at the prompt. Note that there may be times when the water level is high and the stream is flowing across the sidewalk. You may have to go back and go around the other way.
Now the path will begin to go uphill and when you get to a fork you must go either right or left depending on your previous answer. Soon you will pass a bench. If you are tired, you may stop and rest here.
At this point begin counting your steps. After about 150 large steps or possibly 190 small steps, stop and look to your right. You should see a likely location about 30 feet away.
Happy hiking and hunting!
