The beautiful Skeleton Gorge Waterfall is located on the contour path above Kirstenbosch, Cape Town's famous botanical gardens, and is easily accessed through the garden. Located in indigenous Afro-temperate forest, a type of Afromontane forest that resembles equatorial forest in appearance. Vegetation is charaterized by ferns, moss-covered rocks and lianas trailing down from the canopy. A perfect place to take a breather (and hunt for a cache)
Skeleton Gorge is the most popular hiking route up the east side of Table Mountain. It can easily be combined with other caches in the area: namely DanGraceCT's Caching on the Contour Series. The route to the cache is an easy walk and would be achievable to small children.
The origin of the name is unknown, but one can only assume that a human skeleton was found in the ravine sometime after the 1850s, when route names for routes other than Platteklip Gorge became popular.
