Designated a national historic site of Canada in 2000, the Red River Floodway (nicknamed "Duff's Ditch") is a massive flood control system that lies just east of the City of Winnipeg. As this area is the second flattest place on earth (the Tigris-Euphrates River system in Iraq is the flattest), the Red River Valley is supposed to flood. After the catastrophic flood of 1950, former Manitoba premier Duff Roblin advocated for this infrastructure, and Winnipeg has been spared many devastating floods since its completion in 1968.
This is an all-season non-motorized hiking / cycling trail. The cache could be available in winter depending on the amount of snow, and is at a discernible host. You must sign the log to claim this find; otherwise your find will be deleted.
