Geocache Description:

Welcome to Johnson Cemetery!

This is a picture of the old sign for Johnson Cemetery in Westbrook, ME.  It has since been replaced and the fence removed as it was in disrepair.  This cemetery is home to 30 people who lived in this area during the 1800's and early 1900's with many from the Johnson and Knight families. It is a small cemetery tucked in along Route 22.

This cemetery was worked on as part of @cookieborb's Eagle Scout project. The fence was removed, a new sign built and installed (looks similar to the old picture), headstones cleaned, and trash and tree debris cleaned up. It is looking like a cemetery again and hopefully, it will remain that way for a long time.  While working on the project, we talked about how it would be a good spot for a geocache.

There is also a letterbox cache in this cemetery.  Don't confuse the two.  The letterbox cache is sitting out in the open next to one of the headstones.  It must have been found when the city recently did some work here.

There also used to be a cache in this cemetery a number of years ago, but it has since been archived.  Hopefully this cache will last a bit longer.

While searching for this cache (which should be easy to find), take a moment to look around at this little gem of a cemetery.  Please do not park on the road as this is a busy road at most times of the day.  Be careful of the small tree stumps as these were left when the city first removed the small trees that had started growing amongst the headstones.

Please Note: "A person is guilty of criminal trespassing if that person enters or remains in a cemetery or burial ground at any time between 1/2 hour after sunset and 1/2 hour before sunrise the following day."
