WINDLEY KEY FOSSIL REEF GEOLOGICAL STATE PARK
Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park is one of only two state geological sites in Florida. It offers a remarkable opportunity to view fossil-filled quarries, learn area history, and walk beautiful tree-lined trails that showcase the abundance of botanical life in the subtropical Florida Keys. There have been two geocaches in the park for a long time -- one published in 2002, the other in 2008 -- but over half the park has had trails without geocaches -- until now! This cache has been hidden with permission by and enthusiasm from park management. Note that the park is open from 9 am to 5 pm on Thursdays through Mondays...NOT on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There is a very small fee to enter, but the park itself is worth far more...not to mention the geocaching opportunities!
IMPORTANT: Visitors are not allowed to walk into the woods...they need to stay on the trails...and poisonwood grows in the forest, too...so all the geocaches I've hidden here can be reached without your feet leaving the trail. Best to visit when there has not been a rain within the last two hours, to avoid poisonwood drippage from above...that stuff can definitely put a crimp in your vacation plans, EEP!

You are seeking a regular sized ammo box hidden at the foot of a mostly-downed tree. When it was hidden, it was well-stocked with trade items. You can reach it from the trail if you emulate the tree and get down (on your knees) and reeeeach! Please make sure to place it back exactly where you found it and to completely cover it back up once you've finished...otherwise, this one could easily get muggled!
