By now you must have a growing appreciation for the history of the Erie Canal. It was as much a technological advancement as satellites might be considered. The canal helped transport ideas just as quickly as any cargo. In fact, ideas might have been the most precious cargo carried along the waterway. It is no wonder that the movement of a young population along its route lead to changes in the socio-cultural landscape of NY and the emergence of radical ideas.
New York State Parks would like to extend Winter welcome to the Saratoga-Capital District geocaching community! We truly hope you enjoy it! This year, caches have been hidden at Peebles Island, Schodack Island, Grafton Lakes, Mine Kill, and Schoharie Crossings. Each cache has been placed in a winter-friendly, meant-to-be-found manner, so have some seasonal fun and get on the trails at these beautiful New York State Parks! Don’t forget to bring a pen to sign the logs!
The Parks have variable hours of operation in the winter based on the time of sunset and staff availability, so call ahead if you’re not familiar with each Park’s schedule. You can find phone numbers for each Park, along with maps and other information at www.nysparks.com.
We love feedback and we review every log, so please let us know how you liked this series when you post your finds. We appreciate your support of the Sara-Cap NYS Parks geocaching programs and would like to thank you for visiting our parks! Please visit www.nysparks.com for more information, and "like" and follow the individual parks on Facebook.
