The lake was originally a reservoir for the Croydon Canal which operated between 1809 & 1836. The canal was not a commercial success and was abandoned through an act of parliament.
The area boasts several sporting arenas, bowls, tennis, basketball, cricket and football.
There is a blue plaque between two information boards. "Restocked on A-BC-DEFG"

There is a cafe which is open Mon/Thr/Fri and a kiosk for light refreshments.
Parking is available on Auckland Road near the park entrance.
Park gates are predominantly not locked at night, but certain site gates may be closed at times.
