Geocache Description:

ABOUT THE LOCATION

This cache will take you to a “little” free library on the grounds of the former Carbondale General Hospital – now a Senior Community Center.

Opened in 1934, the hospital served the Carbondale area for nearly 60 years before it shut down and merged with Marian Community Hospital.  The building and property then remained vacant until 2018 when the hospital was converted into a senior center and the townhouses around it were built.  If you visit inside on a busy day, you may find one or more patrons proud to tell you they were born or treated in the old hospital.

ABOUT THE CACHE

This gadget cache takes its name from the well-known Doctor Who quote due to the “little” free library being not so little!  This Eagle Scout project is filled with a large variety of books for all ages…as well as a geocache!  Step inside and have a look around.  I tried to fit the theme by making the geocache container “bigger on the inside.”

The container matches the color of the little free library and has GEOCACHE written on the front and side.  A tool has been provided to assist with retrieving the log though it can be obtained if the tool goes missing.  Please return everything as you found it so that the next cacher can enjoy it as well.  If you spot anything missing or broken, please let me know in your log.

NOTE: There is a weekly Farmer’s Market here on Thursdays from 1pm – 6pm.  Depending on the season, you may want to avoid going after this cache during that time.
