A Historic World War II era watch tower, one of several that dot Delaware's beaches, opened to the public in April 2023.
The 57-foot tall World War II fire control tower at Tower Beach in Delaware Seashore State Park, just south of Dewey Beach , allows visitors to climb to the viewing area.
The fire control towers were built to defend the Delaware Bay and River from a potential German attack, but shots were never fired.The restoration of Tower 3 now allows access to the top of the tower for 360-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, Delaware Seashore State Park and Delaware’s inland bays.
The newly rehabbed tower, known as Tower 3, is one of 15 fire control towers built as part of Fort Miles during World War II. Four of them were across the Delaware Bay in New Jersey (though not all remain), while the rest are in Delaware's Cape Henlopen, Delaware Seashore and Fenwick Island state parks.
Tower 3 is 57.2 feet tall above ground, according to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, with 1-foot-thick walls and a 17-foot diameter. It's made of reinforced poured concrete, and the rehab project added nearly 100 spiral steps to the top.
There is nothing to find here, to claim this virtual cache you only need to post a picture of yourself in the log at the top of the tower with the view of either Rehoboth Bay or The Atlantic Ocean . The photo must be from the TOP of the tower.
Yes, you are expected to climb the spiral steps to the top of the tower. It's ok if you dont want to show your smiling face, you can show something with your geocaching name in the photo as long as I can tell you climbed the tower. You may also hold up 4 fingers for Virtual Rewards 4.

If by some chance, the Tower is closed, there is an alternative waypoint where you may take a photo to prove you visited.
The alternative photo must show the bathhouse and the Tower in the Background .

Tower Beach has a beautiful beach with a modern bathhouse . If you are here in the summer time, it is a wonderful place to spend the day after climbing the tower.
From March 1 thru November 30th, the park admission fees are $5 for state residents and $10 for out of state visitors. The park is open daily from 8 am to sunset.
You may enter for no charge between December 1st and Feb 28th.
