Här på bergets södra sida ligger Husaby där den första domkyrkan i Svitjod restes en bit in på 1100-talet innan Skara domkyrka tog över i dess ställe. Gården Husaby hade skänkts till den nystartade kyrkan av den vikingatida kungen Olof Skötkonung (sköta=skänka) som säkert ville ha den första kyrkan nära sin huvudgård. För han lär ha bott på Kinnekulle, på några av hans mynt står det REX AN COLL - kung på kullen.
Under medeltiden var Husaby en av landets mest betydande platser. När Olof Skötkonung låter döpa sig som den förste kristne kungen på svensk mark här i Husaby är det en mycket betydelsefull händelse som är inledningen till att Svea riket får en stabil grund.
Förutom Sveriges kanske märkligaste och äldsta kyrka, finns i Husaby ruinerna av en biskopsborg (kanske var Olofs boning föregångaren till denna borg) som byggherren och biskopen i Skara, Brynolf Gerlaksson, lät reparera och utöka från 1478 till sin död 1505. Här finns även Sankt Sigfrids källa där dopet av Olof Skötkonung enligt tradition sägs ha ägt rum på 1000-talet.
Dessutom finns det en mängd vackra medeltida kyrkor i denna historiskt viktiga bygd. För att få logga denna virtuella cache ska du bege dig ut på en spännande resa och upptäcka några av dessa 1100-talskyrkor. Gå gärna in i kyrkorna där så är möjligt för att ytterligare krydda din upplevelse!
Så här ska du göra för att logga denna virtuella cache:
- Besök Husaby kyrka och ytterligare fyra av de åtta andra medeltida kyrkorna vilka ligger som waypoints. Du väljer själv vilka och i vilken ordning.
- Ta foton på dig eller något som symboliserar dig, t.ex en namnlapp, tillsammans med det som efterfrågas vid respektive kyrka (waypoint). Du behöver så klart inte visa ditt ansikte på bilderna.
- Bifoga de fem bilderna i din logg. Skulle det vara några tveksamheter hör jag av mig.

Here on the southern side of the mountain is Husaby, where the first cathedral in Svitjod was built some time into the 12th century before Skara Cathedral took over in its place. The farm Husaby had been donated to the newly started church by the Viking Age king Olof Skötkonung, who probably wanted the first church near his main farm. Because he is said to have lived on Kinnekulle, on some of his coins it says REX AN COLL - king on the hill.
In the middle ages, Husaby was one of the countrys most significant places. When Olof Skötkonung gets himself baptized as the first christian king on Swedish soil here in Husaby, it is a very significant event which is the beginning of the kingdom of Svea getting a stable foundation.
In addition to perhaps Swedens strangest and oldest church, in Husaby there are the ruins of a bishops castle (perhaps Olof's dwelling was the predecessor of this castle) which the builder and bishop of Skara, Brynolf Gerlaksson, had repaired and extended from 1478 until his death in 1505
. Here is also St Sigfrids well where, according to tradition, the baptism of Olof Skötkonung is said to have taken place in the 11th century.
In addition, there are a number of beutiful medieval churches in this historically important settlement. In order to log this virtual one, you must go on an exciting journey and discover some of these 12th century churches. Feel free to enter the churches if possible to further spice up your experience!
Here´s how to log this virtual cache:
- Visit Husaby church and another four of the eight medieval churches which are located as waypoints. You choose which ones and in what order.
- Take photos of you or something that symbolizes you, such as a name tag, together with what is requested at the respective church (waypoint). Of course, you don`t have to show your face in the photos.
- Attach the five images to your log. Should there be any doubts, I will let you know.
