Geocache Description:

The Roca de Sant Salvador (Saint Salvador's Rock) (1156m), also known as L'Elefant (The Elephant), is a peak in the northeast of Montserrat, listed as one of the "essential" peaks in the FEEC 100 peaks list (T.N. a list of 300+ catalan peaks by the Catalan Federation of Mountain Clubs, made as a challenge to summit 100 of them). It's known as the Elephant for the particular shape it has when seen from the southwest: it's reminiscent of an elephant's head, trunk included. Technically the Rock and the Elephant are two separate peaks, but they are very very close to one another - to log the cache you'll have to summit the Rock, the highest of the two.

The access to the peak requires a couple of scrambles, with the most technical one at the end: a short but steep and narrow chimney that has to be passed to reach the top. This chimney is the main reason for the elevated terrain rating, be careful (without it it would be T4). After surpassing the chimney, you will have the peak only a few meters to the left. When you reach the top you will enjoy magnificent views over Montserrat, and will be able to take the necessary pictures to log the cache as found.

To log the cache:

You will have to add 2 photos to your log, with some identifying element: it can be a selfie, your name on a piece of paper, your GPS, whatever you want. Pictures without an identifying element will not be valid and your log may be deleted. Photo examples above.

  • Photo 1: From the rock pile marking the top of Saint Salvador's Rock, you will see the peak of the Elephant, right next to you, also with a rock pile marking the top. Take a picture of this other peak with the rock pile.
  • Photo 2: A couple of meters from the top, you will find a plaque attached to the rock, with a pessebre (T.N. nativity scene) image. Take a picture where the plaque is visible.
