El monte Guajara, con una altitud de 2.718 metros, es uno de los picos más destacados del Parque Nacional del Teide de Tenerife, ya que es el tercer pico más alto del archipiélago canario (después del Teide y el Pico de Viejo). Famoso por su geología volcánica, sus vistas panorámicas y su importancia histórica como lugar de observación astronómica del siglo XIX, ofrece un destino extraordinario tanto para senderistas como para entusiastas de la naturaleza.
El ascenso a la cumbre sigue senderos bien marcados, en particular la Ruta 5 (Senda Guajara) o la Ruta 31 (Degollada de Guajara), que comienzan cerca del Parador Nacional en el Parque Nacional del Teide. Estos senderos llevan a los senderistas a través de diversos paisajes volcánicos, con caminos escarpados, mesetas abiertas y una flora única de gran altitud. El viaje es de alta dificultad y el tramo final requiere una subida empinada pero manejable para llegar a la cumbre.

Cuando llegues a la cima de Guajara, encontrarás viejos muros de piedra. Son los restos del primer observatorio de alta montaña del mundo. Los primeros muros de piedra fueron construidos aquí en 1856 por el italiano Sir Charles Piazzi Smyth. El astrónomo no solo investigó en Egipto, sino también en Tenerife. En el verano de 1856, realizó sus observaciones de estrellas en la cima de Guama.
