Geocache Description:

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport

yoursunny loves aviation. Airports are an essential part of commercial aviation. While yoursunny does not often fly, he enjoys coming to the BWI airport to watch the airplanes, the ground support vehicles, the luggage carousels, the flight displays, etc. Airports can also stir up many emotions: the excitement to see loved ones coming home or the sorrow to see them leave, the desire to get away or giving in to homesickness, the wonders in little kids eyes when those big "birds" take flight, etc. Therefore, yoursunny decides to place his Virtual Reward 4.0 at the BWI airport.

BWI Marshall Airport, located 9 miles south of downtown Baltimore and 32 miles northeast of Washington, D.C., is the busiest airport in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, and the 22nd-busiest airport in the United States. BWI airport has three active runways. The airport terminal has five concourses with 78 gates.

The airport is named after Thurgood Marshall, a Baltimore native who became the first African American to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States.

Logging Tasks

To claim this Virtual Geocache as a find, you must make a geocaching related artwork at BWI.

  1. Be physically present within BWI airport or BWI rail station.
  2. Draw/paint/spell/scribble/fold something related to geocaching. It can be on any medium like paper, skin, ticket, or tablet.
  3. Take a picture that includes (1) your self-made artwork and (2) a signage or building exterior that identifies BWI. A wide-angle picture is most effective to fulfill both aspects. You do not have to show your face or your body in the picture.
  4. Attach the picture to your online log.

The point of your attached artwork picture is to proof you took this picture specifically for this Virtual Geocache and you took the picture at BWI. Therefore I need to be able to clearly identify BWI. Just an airplane in the picture could be anywhere.

Having an art major is not a requirement, so no need to worry about perfection. Just have fun.

Location Requirements

Your picture can be taken at one of these acceptable locations:

  • Any passenger accessible locations inside the airport terminal. Your picture must include a signage that includes "BWI" text or the BWI logo.
  • BWI observation gallery, located on the Departures level of the airport terminal, pre-security, near Security Checkpoint C. Your picture must include one of the artifacts in the observation gallery.
  • Exterior of the BWI airport terminal building.
  • Any airport parking lot. Your picture must include a BWI signage or the exterior of a garage building.
  • Exterior of the BWI rental car facility.
  • Platform of the BWI lightrail station.
  • Exterior of the BWI rail station.
  • Thomas A. Dixon, Jr. Aircraft Observation Area. Your picture must include the "Aircraft Observation Area" signage.

Please avoid any restricted area, such as the apron, runways, security checkpoints, and railroad tracks.

Self-Made Artwork Requirements

  • Your picture must include an artwork that you made yourself. Existing art installations in the airport do not count because they are not your artwork.
  • The artwork should be geocaching related. Examples include a drawing of the smiley face, a paper-cutout of Signal the Frog, a boarding pass folded in the shape of the Geocaching logo.
  • The artwork does not have to be elaborate. A simple drawing would suffice.
  • A digital artwork is acceptable if it is displayed on your digital device while you take the picture with another device.
  • Editing an old picture or social media post, adding a digital clip art or emojis onto it, does not count as picture of your artwork.
  • Please do not deface any public property.

Just as with traditional Geocaches where you need to sign a log to earn the smiley, you need to fulfill the logging requirements for this Virtual Geocache. That means you need a picture specifically for this Virtual Geocache and you need to be within BWI. It is not difficult to fulfill the requirements but you need to be aware of them before you take the picture.
