Welcome to the breathtaking Cumberland Falls and if you have planned your visit just right, here's your chance to witness a fascinating natural phenomenon- a moonbow!

There are only a handful of places around the world where moonbows, sometimes called lunar rainbows, occur regularly. Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Kentucky is not only one of those places, it’s the only place in the U.S. where you can see a moonbow consistently!
Moonbows are rare because they require mist coming off the plunging falls, the brightness from a full moon low on the horizon, a clear night with few clouds, and very dark skies to be seen. When witnessing the moonbow over Cumberland Falls, the bow will actually appear white to the naked eye. If you capture it through photography, it will capture the colored spectrum. The area is super dark at night so please be careful and it's wise to bring a flashlight for when you head back to your car.
Daytime visits are also very spectacular and you'll be sure to catch a traditional rainbow often depending on water levels, wind conditions and sun location. You do not need to witness either a rainbow or a moonbow to log this cache! Just enjoy your visit!

To help plan your visit, the state park publishes a calendar of when the moonbow will occur.
To log this virtual, please email or use the messaging component in the geocaching app to answer these questions and post a photo of the Falls (you do not need to be in it!)
1. What is the date on the plaque at the coordinates?
2. During your visit, were you able to witness either a rainbow or a moonbow?
3. Please post a photo of the Falls from this viewpoint.
We hope you enjoyed your visit. Another great angle to see the falls is from the Eagle Falls trail with the trailhead starting across the road but allow more time in your visit if you want to do that.
