Introducción / Introduction
El Metro de Santiago es la joya de nuestra ciudad y el orgullo de sus habitantes. Años atrás era común ver a visitantes sacándose fotos en su interior, como demostrando que el Metro es un destino en sí mismo y no sólo un medio de transporte eficiente y cómodo. Hoy las fotos siguen ocurriendo, pero es menos notable en una época en que se documentan y exponen todos los momentos de la vida cotidiana. Este cache virtual te invita a sumarte a esta larga historia y tomarte tú también algunas fotos en el Metro (o fotografiar algún objeto personal distintivo si no quieres mostrarte).
Santiago tiene varios mystery caches asociados al Metro que requieren identificar algún elemento y asociarlo con una línea o una estación, pero por razones obvias no hay ningún geocache que requiera ingresar físicamente dentro de la red. Como usuario frecuente del Metro y de este hobby, he fantaseado muchas veces con el sinfín de rincones en que se podría ocultar un tesoro. Por eso, cuando recibí la oportunidad de crear un cache virtual, rápidamente me di cuenta de que era la ocasión perfecta para generar una experiencia de geocaching al interior del Metro.
Este cache es también, entonces, una invitación y una excusa para conocer y usar el Metro de Santiago si estás visitando la ciudad. Es probablemente la forma más segura de moverse, y permite llegar a una multitud de barrios, atracciones turísticas y, por supuesto, geocaches (más abajo hay algunos datos útiles para visitantes). Pero los usuarios habituales y no tan habituales de este sistema también pueden sentirse convocados a explorar el foco y sentido de este cache, al que al fin llegamos después de tanta introducción.
The Santiago Metro is the jewel of our city and the pride of its inhabitants. Years ago, it was common to see visitors taking photos inside it, as if to demonstrate that the Metro is a destination in itself and not just an efficient and comfortable means of transportation. Today, photos still happen, but it is less remarkable in an era where every moment of daily life is documented and shared. This virtual cache invites you to join this long history and take some photos in the Metro yourself (or photograph some distinctive personal object if you prefer not to show yourself).
Santiago has several mystery caches associated with the Metro that require identifying some element and associating it with a line or a station, but for obvious reasons, there is no geocache that requires physically entering the network. As a frequent Metro user and geocaching enthusiast, I have often fantasized about the countless corners where a treasure could be hidden. That's why, when I received the opportunity to create a virtual cache, I quickly realized that it was the perfect occasion to generate a geocaching experience inside the Metro.
This cache is also, therefore, an invitation and an excuse to get to know and use the Metro de Santiago if you are visiting the city. It is probably the safest way to get around, and it allows you to reach a multitude of neighborhoods, tourist attractions, and, of course, geocaches (below are some useful tips for visitors). But regular and not so regular users of this system can also feel summoned to explore the focus and purpose of this cache, which we finally reach after so much introduction.
MetroArte
Este cache trata de las obras de arte dispuestas a lo largo de la red del Metro de Santiago, al alero de la Corporación Cultural MetroArte. Su catálogo abarca desde murales monumentales hasta esculturas pequeñas; desde piezas de grandes maestros del arte chileno hasta proyectos colaborativos hechos con la comunidad; y desde intervenciones urbanas en el entorno de las estaciones hasta las paredes y cielos de los mismos andenes.
Citando la web de la institución: "Los proyectos MetroArte son instalaciones artísticas de gran formato ubicadas en diferentes estaciones, que permiten poner al alcance de las personas importantes obras de connotados artistas. Desde 1993, cuando fue instalada la primera obra, (“Interior Urbano”, óleo sobre tela del artista Hernán Miranda), MetroArte ha sido capaz de convertir a Metro en una galería abierta, un museo público, un lugar de encuentro donde diariamente los pasajeros pueden apreciar obras de Roberto Matta en estación Quinta Normal, Mario Toral en Universidad de Chile, Guillermo Muñoz Vera en La Moneda, Samy Benmayor, Francisco Smythe y Guillermo Lorca en Baquedano, entre muchos otros.

This cache deals with artworks arranged throughout the Metro de Santiago network, under the auspices of the MetroArte Cultural Corporation. Its catalog spans from monumental murals to small sculptures; from pieces by great masters of Chilean art to collaborative projects made with the community; and from urban interventions in the surroundings of the stations to the walls and ceilings of the platforms themselves.
Quoting the institution's website: "The MetroArte projects are large-format artistic installations located in different stations, which allow important works by renowned artists to be accessible to the public. Since 1993, when the first work was installed (‘Interior Urbano,’ oil on canvas by artist Hernán Miranda), MetroArte has been able to turn Metro into an open gallery, a public museum, a meeting place where passengers can appreciate works by Roberto Matta at Quinta Normal station, Mario Toral at Universidad de Chile, Guillermo Muñoz Vera at La Moneda, Samy Benmayor, Francisco Smythe, and Guillermo Lorca at Baquedano, among many others.

El desafío / The challenge:
Las coordenadas publicadas corresponden a la Estación Baquedano, uno de los puntos neurálgicos de la ciudad y la estación que contiene la mayor cantidad de obras de arte, por lo que es el lugar perfecto para iniciar tu recorrido. Para loguear este cache virtual, debes visitar al menos 3 obras de MetroArte en 3 estaciones distintas del Metro de Santiago. Al momento de loguearlo como encontrado, debes señalar el nombre de las obras y las estaciones, e incluir fotografías que prueben que estuviste en presencia de las obras. Puedes incluir un objeto personal (como un trackable o un papel con tu username) si no quieres aparecer. También puedes enviarme las fotografías por mensaje directo si no deseas publicarlas. Los logs de quienes no entreguen pruebas serán borrados.
¡Pero hay más! Para cada obra, registraremos el nombre de la primera persona que la haya visitado e incluido en su log. Esto es algo totalmente opcional y no es requisito para loguear el cache como encontrado, pero queda como desafío adicional: ¿Eres capaz de visitar una obra que aún no haya sido logueada? ¡Salte de la rutina y entra en la posteridad! (¿Que qué haremos cuando todas las casillas estén llenas? Con el ritmo actual del geocaching en Chile, tenemos seguramente para rato. Y siempre nos queda el gran Zerreitug para un bis)
The published coordinates correspond to Baquedano Station, one of the city's nerve centers and the station that contains the largest number of artworks. Hence, it is the perfect place to start your journey. To log this virtual cache, you must visit at least 3 MetroArte artworks in 3 different stations of the Santiago Metro. When logging it as found, you must mention the names of the artworks and the stations, and include photographs proving that you were in the presence of the artworks. You can include a personal object (like a trackable or a piece of paper with your username) if you prefer not to appear. You can send me the photographs via direct message if you do not wish to publish them. Logs from those who do not provide evidence will be deleted.
But wait, there's more! For each artwork, we will record the name of the first person who visited it and included it in their log. This is entirely optional and not a requirement to log the cache as found, but it serves as an additional challenge: Are you capable of visiting an artwork that has not yet been logged? Go off the beaten path and enter into posterity! (What will we do when all the slots are filled? With the current pace of geocaching in Chile, we surely have plenty of time ahead. And there's always the great Zerreitug for an encore.)

Pago / Payment:
Para pagar se requiere comprar una tarjeta BIP, que también sirve para usar el transporte público en superficie (buses RED o Transantiago). El trasbordo entre el Metro y los buses dentro de un mismo viaje de 2 horas es gratuito (o cuesta una fracción del pasaje en horario bajo). La tarjeta se usa únicamente al ingresar, ya que la tarifa es fija y no varía por el largo del viaje. La misma tarjeta puede usarse para pagar sucesivamente la entrada de varias personas (aunque de esta forma se pierde la posibilidad de ocupar la tarifa integrada con los buses). To pay, you need to purchase a BIP card, which also serves for using public transportation on the surface (the buses known as RED or Transantiago). Transfers between the Metro and buses within a single journey of 2 hours are free (or cost a fraction of the fare during off-peak hours). The card is only used upon entry, as the fare is fixed and does not vary based on the length of the journey. The same card can be used to pay for the entry of multiple people successively (although this way, you lose the option of using the integrated fare with buses).
