TL;DR:
According to Jewish tradition this wall is a remnant of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. It is the holiest site for Jews.
There’s a tradition of slipping notes with prayers in between the cracks of the wall. Your task:
- Take a photo of the Wailing Wall. The photo should also include either: you, your GPS device, your nickname.
- Think of a geocaching-themed wish. Log a find with the wish and the photo attached.
Whispering Wishes to the Wailing Wall
(I may have exaggerated with the alliteration)
Journey to the ancient city of Jerusalem and stand before the iconic Western Wall (a.k.a the Wailing Wall), a remnant of the city’s immense historical and spiritual significance.

A Brief History
According to the Hebrew Bible, Solomon's Temple was built atop what is known as the Temple Mount in the 10th century BCE and destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE, and the Second Temple completed and dedicated in 516 BCE. Around 19 BCE Herod the Great began a massive expansion project on the Temple Mount. In addition to fully rebuilding and enlarging the Temple, he artificially expanded the platform on which it stood, doubling it in size. The temple was destroyed by the Romans along with the rest of Jerusalem in 70 CE during the First Jewish-Roman War. Today's Western Wall formed part of the retaining perimeter wall of the platform.
For centuries, people from all over the world have made pilgrimages to this holy site, offering their prayers and writing wishes on small pieces of paper, which they then tuck into the crevices of the wall. Today, more than a million prayer notes or wishes are placed in the Western Wall each year. [Wikipedia]
The cache
Since this is a virtual cache, there’s no physical hide. Instead you have to complete two very simple tasks:
- Capture the Moment: Take a photo of yourself, your GPS device, or your geocaching nickname with the Wailing Wall in the background, and attach it to your “Found It” log.
- Share a Wish: Think of a geocaching-related wish and add it to your log. Perhaps you wish for more geocaches in your area, or a long-lasting battery for your GPS. Let your imagination guide your geo-wish!
One final reminder before you visit: The Wailing Wall is a holy site. Please be mindful of those praying and maintain a respectful demeanor during your visit.
