Escultura da Anémona
Muito mais do que uma simples escultura, a “Anémona” é um símbolo patrimonial de Matosinhos, reconhecida nacional e internacionalmente esta obra tão emblemática da cidade de Matosinhos.
Em 2005, a Praça Cidade São Salvador, em Matosinhos, ganhou uma exótica escultura. Trata-se da obra “She Changes” (“Ela Muda”), conhecida popularmente por “Anémona”, da artista norte-americana Janet Echelman. Hoje, esta escultura não só é parte da identidade do Concelho, como também é um dos seus principais cartões de visita.
A escultura, feita com Tenara (fibra sintética arquitetónica) e ferro, vai alterando de acordo com o movimento do vento. A artista teve as redes de pesca como inspiração para a sua criação. Homenageando assim a tradicional atividade piscatória de Matosinhos. A obra é composta por 3 postes metálicos, tendo um deles 60 metros de altura, e por uma rede suspensa num anel com 42 metros de diâmetro.
A escultura parece dançar, de acordo com o movimento que o vento faz nas redes. À noite, ganha ainda mais destaque apresentando diferentes cores e formas.
Anemone Sculpture
Much more than a simple sculpture, the “Anémona” is a heritage symbol of Matosinhos, recognized nationally and internationally this emblematic work in city of Matosinhos.
In 2005, Praça Cidade São Salvador, in Matosinhos, gained an exotic sculpture. This is the work “She Changes”, popularly known as “Anémona”, by the North-American artist Janet Echelman. Today, this sculpture is not only part of the Municipality's identity, but is also one of its main business cards.
The sculpture, made with Tenara (synthetic architectural fiber) and iron, changes according to the movement of the wind. The artist used fishing nets as inspiration for her creation. Thus paying homage to the traditional fishing activity of Matosinhos. The work is made up of 3 metal posts, one of which is 60 meters high, and a net suspended in a ring 42 meters in diameter.
The sculpture appears to dance, according to the movement that the wind makes in the nets. At night, it gains even more prominence presenting different colors and shapes.
