Geocache Description:

21 February 2024, 09:30 - 12:30

WILLOW CLEARANCE FROM THE POND AT HORSBERE RESERVE

Parking: Suggested parking is in the car park at the provided coords, there is a footbridge to take you over to Horsbere Brook Reserve. Or if there is space you can park by the gates leading in to the Reserve (Parking area / Meet-up point).

Where: Meet up 09:30 by the main gates to Horsbere Reserve where we will collect tools and make our way to the work site which is brookside of the pond. Access along this part of the embankment is usually closed to the public, so if you arrive after 09:30 please message me via Geocaching and I will come and unlock the access barrier.

What:  We will be cutting and clearing willow that is growing in and around the pond. This is done on an annual basis, over several sessions, to prevent it taking over and reducing the capacity of the flood storage pond. Today's session will be focusing on clearing willow growing in the section of pond adjacent to Horsbere Brook.

How: The Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance and tools. Please bring work gloves if possible and if you wish to use your own tools (saw, loppers) then do bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have tools as the Ranger will have a supply.

It will be wet underfoot so bring wellies if you have them.

Please also think about bringing a drink/snack for breaktime. Homemade cake will be provided. 🙂
