Take a drive or hike/bike into Tosohatchee WMA, about 2 miles from the main entrance kiosk. While you are in the area,visit the WWII Memorial. This cache is located within the Tosohatchee WMA. Visitors should be aware of seasonal hunting and must abide by all area regulations while on the area.
This is my first cache. Sadly, the original container was, I believe, taken away by one of the friendly critters that wander around this vast area. I have decided to place a more compact container. Thus, you are looking for a camo’d bison tube.
I decided to place my cache here to show my respect and admiration for the seven brave men who lost their lives in a plane crash here in Tosohatchee WMA in 1943. I not only want to honor them, but all the men and women who have sacrificed for our country.
On a lighter note, please take the time to explore the wonderful area of Tosohatchee WMA. You will not only find many more GEOCaches (at least 38), some simple ones to drive up to, and other complex ones you have to venture out in the woods to locate. There are also many miles of blazed trails to follow throughout the WMA if you enjoy the outdoors. The only restriction is that you park at designated parking areas. The roads are dirt and during the wet season can be very unfriendly, so always keep that in mind The history of Tosohatchee is quite extensive, from early settlers, to a group from Orlando who at one time owned it for their own private hunting area. There are a lot of historical items all over the WMA to be viewed before nature reclaims everything.
There is a moderate fee charged to enter Tosohatchee for those adults under 65. ($3.00 per-person)
One thing to be aware of is that it is a WMA, which means hunting is allowed at times. You should check the hunting schedule using the links I provided below. It is wise to always wear something bright when visiting any WMA during hunting season.
