Geocache Description:

25 February 2024, 14:00 - 15:00

Challenge Cache Chat (& Coffee)

When: Sunday Feb 25 @ 2pm - 3pm

Where: Bunjils Nest Playground. Cnr Sovereign Drive &, Unity Dr, Mount Duneed

Note: whilst there are great facilities here, this means it can also get quite busy on weekends. The undercover seating is quite popular for birthday parties etc, so I have placed the event coordinates on a nearby grassed area that is usually pretty free. If you want/require seating I would suggest bring along your own chair just in case. Free onsite BBQ's are available for anyone that wishes to make use of them (they can get busy also, but by this tme of day hopefully they wont be too bad). The playground will keep the GeoKids entertained, and there is a cafe adjacent to the playground. Suggested parking spots and Public Toilets have been added as waypoints.

Todays topic of conversation: Challenge Caches!

As a self confessed Stats Nerd & Challenge Cache Junkie, I spend a lot of time scouring maps for interesting challenge caches. This led me to realise that Challenge Cache numbers around Geelong are relatively few and far between. This surprised me, given how spoiled we are in these parts, in terms of the caching available and the community of cachers.

Excluding the 10 active challenges caches that we have placed, in Geelong and Surrounding areas there are currently (at time of submission):

Greater Geelong: Four Active Challenge caches

Surf Coast & Queenscliff: One Active Challenge Cache (in each)

As a result, I have been asking myself....

Are challenge caches generally not as liked as much as I like them?

Do cachers not place them because they dont understand the rules around challenge cache placement?

Do cachers not know how (or where) to get a challenge checker so they can put out a challenge cache? (Hint: you dont have to do it yourself!)

Does placing a challenge cache get thrown in the 'too hard' basket?

At which point I realised, asking myself these questions was a waste of time.... im better off asking others!

The aim of this event is to have a general natter about challenge caches.

Want to know more about finding or hiding challenge caches? Bring along your questions! If I (or anyone else) cant answer it on the day, I will take it away and find out the answer for you.

Got an example of a great challenge cache you have seen/found/are working on? Tell us about it!

Couldn't care less about challenge caches? Thats ok, feel free to come along anyway!
