Geocache Description:

Williamson Valley Road Series: A Morgan Ranch Park Association History Project

Information about the area's history can be found by reading the 3 MRPA books – Williamson Valley Road, Williamson Valley & Beyond and Prescott to Camp Wood: Cowboy Bill. Morgan Ranch Nature Park is 6 miles north on Williamson Valley Road, ¼ mile east on Nancy Dr. Find more information at our Williamson Valley Historical Society-E. Facebook page.

In 1878, Johnny and Harriette Koontz arrived in Williamson Valley. They homesteaded the 7V Ranch, where they raised livestock and 12 children. Johnny was a harness maker and an expert roper and bronc buster on the rodeo circuit. Harriette, a midwife, delivered many children.

Cachers are required to obtain a permit to access State Trust Land. This permit ensures a responsible and sustainable exploration of the area. This link directs you to the necessary permit application process.

The terrain is quite smooth until you get to the arroyo. You must cross the arroyo and hike slightly uphill for quite a while. A bit after crossing the arroyo, the terrain gets rocky, so you might want to bring your hiking sticks.
