Geocache Description:

Green Lake once existed about half a mile southeast of this GZ. It occupied Pu'u Kapoho volcanic crater and with a surface area of 2 acres and a depth of 200 feet, it was the largest freshwater lake in the state. Then, on June 2, 2018, lava from Kilauea's lower Puna eruption came along and first evaporated all the water before completely filling in the basin.

Those who ventured to Green Lake
described it as a luscious paradise. But there were also rumors that this body of water was a dumping ground for an unwanted exotic pet. Supposedly, an 8-10 foot alligator had been spotted. When I heard this, I dubbed him "Uncle Death Roll," and laughed. I had my doubts. While the climate would certainly be ideal for this type of beast, I can't imagine that there could ever be enough food in the area to sustain it. But whether you believe in the legend of Uncle Death Roll or not, I think we can all agree that there is no alligator living there now!

This smiley is only for those who DARE to venture into deepest, lava ravaged Puna District!
