Cache Information

This geocache is located at the Slade Avenue Trackhead of the Two Creeks Track. The cache itself is a small Sistema 180ml container, with enough room for a logbook, pen and even a trackable or two. Please respect the local neighbours and the environment whilst trying to find this cache, no need to go enter private property. This cache is named after Thrush Patrol, one of the 6 patrols that make up our scout group. Please replace the cache how you found it so others may also enjoy this find.

History of The Two Creeks Track

The history of the Two Creeks Track begins with The Great Depression, which hit Australia hard. Unemployment soared to 32 per cent by 1932. The Australian Government responded to the suffering by allocating £1,000,000 to the states for unemployment relief. New South Wales received £276,000 of this and with £15,000 of those funds, and another £4,000 from Ku-ring-gai Council, the Eastern Arterial Road was constructed. Reaching from Chatswood to Killara and northwards, the aim was to further open up the north shore and provide an alternate route to the winding Pacific Highway.

As part of that work, the park received a face lift! Overseen by RH (Harry) Patterson, the Building Surveyor and Parks Officer at Ku-ring-gai Council from 1926 to 1938, the men employed through the Unemployment Scheme constructed a series of sandstone paths and stairs through Seven Little Australians Park along with the sandstone pillars which reinforce a massive rock overhang. The paths and stairs would have been hand-hewn and placed. A massive effort and still mostly intact today. This path was constructed from Slade Avenue, Lindfield to The Gordon Creek Bridge (now demolished) before merging with the Barie Street Track in Killara. The track was extended down to the former Royal Engineers Camp (informally known as Palm Tree Flats) and Echo Point, Roseville Chase during the 1940s.

Park information (from National Parks website)
Garigal is part of an important wildlife corridor that spans all the way from Sydney Harbour to the national parks of the Blue Mountains. It is the natural habitat for a number of threatened native animal species, such as tiger quolls, broad-headed snakes and red-crowned toadlets, so keep your eyes peeled. If you see a hole in the ground it may be that of the endangered southern brown bandicoot.

There are many places of historical interest in the park, such as Bungaroo and the former Bantry Bay Explosives Magazine complex. Both sites played a key role in the early establishment of Sydney and are important reminders of our history since colonisation.

Enjoy a walk to Bantry Bay, where you'll see a collection of historically important buildings surrounded by stunning foreshore and bushland views.

Aboriginal people have been custodians of the land in Garigal National Park for thousands of years and this connection and legacy is evident throughout the park. Garigal has extensive Aboriginal art sites, with over 100 Aboriginal sites recorded to date, including cave art, rock engravings, shelters, middens and grinding grooves.

There are countless ways to pass the time in Garigal. Explore the park's trails and tracks on horseback, mountain bike or on foot. If you enjoy
water activities, launch your canoe or boat from the ramp at Davidson Park or drop a line in one of the great fishing spots throughout the park, like Middle Harbour, where you can catch flathead, flounder, mullet and bream.

Thanks and Happy Catching :)
