Of the innovation centers, sofware parks, creative parks, technology parks and the like dotted around Huangpu, the Huangpu Innovation Center is perhaps the greatest of them all, at least in terms of scale.

"A 3 million square meter science and technology innovation city with an area of over 1,000 square meters, focusing on building an innovation and intelligence demonstration city in the east. In 2017, Agile Group signed a cooperation agreement with the Development Zone Management Committee to build a 4,500-acre science and technology innovation city, which is currently the largest urban renewal project in the city, equivalent to half the area of Zhujiang Xincheng."

Back in 2017 the area was truck parking and farmland with an urban village to the northeast. By late 2019 the site had been cleared, with construction proceeding during 2021 to 2023. By the end of 2023 construction was mostly completed and the development is partially open, but mostly still empty. It's now connected to the metro network as of late 2023, but sections of the construction are still being completed and there is a lot of scope to expand the project to the truck parking area to the south and urban village to the north.
Opposite the cache across the road is the massive Dongfeng - Honda JV factory.
The developed site where the cache is located is a mere 80,000 square meters. The planned 3 million square meter development covers the entire huge area north of the expressway roughly 1.5km wide and 2km high.
