Out for summer, Out till fall, We might not come back at all
School's out forever, School's out for summer, School's out with fever, School's out completely!

"Alice Cooper 1972"

Here was the site of the Arthurton Primary School which operated in the area from 1874 until 1988. The First attempts at a school in Arthurton was conducted in a mining hut shortly before the mining was wound down in the area and as aresult closed the school. The second attempt was in the Wesleyan Chapel but closed when the teacher and family left the area. Next they purchased 2 1/2 acres for the purpose of opening a school but this did not eventuate into a school being built. Then in 1878 Dr. T. Schmidt commenced lessons in the small chapel and then finally in 1879 a provision was made to commence building a School. Dr. T. Schmidt became the first official teacher once opened.
