Dating from the Iron Age, Beattock Hill Fort would originally have been a large and impressive defensive structure on the summit of the hill, with panoramic views over Upper Annandale. Two outer walls enclosed several buildings inside and there is evidence of more homesteads showing a settlement surrounded the fort. All that remains now are some earthworks that show the size and scale of what once stood here,
