Geocache Description:

23 March 2024, 14:00 - 16:00

Let’s meet at the posted coords for some tie-dyeing fun! Let the inner Hippie in you find its way out. Never tie-dyed before, you say? No problem! We’ll have at least a couple of experienced folks at the event to assist you. In addition, there will be some easy to follow How To instructions for creating specific designs/patterns. It’s important to be prepared, so please read ALL the provided information below.

Please bring a 100% cotton pre-washed item that you would like to tie-dye… T-shirt, socks, bandana, hat, scarf, undies etc. 100% cotton works best, but a 90/10 blend will suffice. NOTE: acrylic/polyester will NOT accept the dye. For the brightest creations, white 100% cotton items will dye the best, and this is what we recommend you bring for tie-dyeing. Light colors such as yellow, pink, lavender, gray etc. will work too, but will result in a more subdued final product. Your local WallyWorld or Dollar and hobby stores sell Tees for around five bucks or so.

Two tables will be available for you to prepare your item(s) for tie-dyeing. Two additional tables will be set up for the actual tie-dyeing, where you will create your masterpiece. You will NOT be able to see your final product right away. The dyed T-shirt/item will be placed in a Ziploc bag (leaving the rubber bands in place) for 24 hours to let the dye set. After the 24-hour period, you will rinse the dye from your T-shirt/item. Printed rinse, wash, care instructions will be provided to take home with you.

  • Remember to bring 100% cotton T-shirt or other item (or 90/10 blend)
  • Remember to run brand new items through a wash cycle once… apparently brand new shirts etc. have a coating on them that is removed with an initial washing.
  • Bring along a chair – there will be plenty of schmoozing
  • Remember to share pics of your creations!

Items provided by the host:

  • The dyes
  • Tie-dying racks
  • Spray bottles with water to dampen your item OR even better, the day of the event run your item(s) through a quick rinse/spin cycle in your washer. Then place the damp item in a Ziploc bag so that it is tie-dye ready.
  • Miscellaneous supplies to create tie-dye designs: rubber bands, marbles, zip ties, fabric markers
  • Gloves
  • Ziploc bags to transport your masterpiece home
  • Protective covers for the dying tables
  • Printed rinse/wash/care instructions to take home

WAIT! There’s more!! We’ll be burning… errrrrrr… grilling some hot dogs to keep you fueled while you schmooze and tie-dye. If you’d like to bring some chips or a side dish, you are welcome to do so, but not obligated. There will be a separate table for the food items.
