On October 1, 2024, geocachers are celebrating World Postcard Day. What better way to remember this than with a letterbox hybrid cache.
Your search begins at the posted coordinates, which are for the trailhead. (Street information is given for those who letterbox.) You will follow the directions and photos found below them to get to the final container.
If you prefer to know the final coordinates in advance, there is a puzzle you can solve in advance at the bottom of this page. Due to the bouncy coordinates in this heavily wooded area, I suspect it will be easier to just follow the letterbox style directions with the photos, or do that in combination with your solution.
To begin, park on the east side of Galloway St SE, about 400' north of O'Farrell Avenue SE, given as parking coordinates on the cache page. Walk about 200' north to the trail entrance pictured, given as the posted coordinates. Continue to follow instructions, photos, and comments.
From parking, walk about 200' north to the trail entrance as seen below, given as the stated coordinates. Note: Do you like to get packages in the mail?
Follow the trail, pictured below, as it gently slopes downhill. Note: This letterbox has three packages!
Soon after the trail starts going back uphill, you will see this log crossing the trail. Cross over it to continue your journey. Ignore the trail to the left.
As you continue your walk, you may see this unusual snag attached to living trees on your right. Note: The first package contains the letterbox stamp. Do not remove it.
If you see the view shown below, as you head uphill, you are getting close. Note: The second package is for travel bugs, and has notes you may send to the next cacher if you choose.
When you get to this stubby stump and the backwards "L" tree, stop between them. Prepare to look downhill and a bit to your left. Note: The third package contains the log book and trade items.
Looking downhill, you should spot the long fallen log pictured below, near some snags. You will walk between a few giant trees to get it.
When at the log, follow the red arrows as shown in the photo below. Go around the end of it and its stump to get to the other side. Enjoy your find.
Prefer a puzzle to solve for the final coordinates before heading out to find the cache? Simply find and fill in the values for the colors.
