La Biblioteca Pública Municipal de Quart de Poblet tiene casi 62 años de historia. Fue inaugurada el 3 de septiembre de 1951, en el local que ocupaba el número 1 de la calle Virgen María de Pilar, y el proyecto se encomendó al arquitecto Salvador Pascual. Diez años antes, Pascual se había encargado de diseñar el edificio de oficinas de Refracta, nueva sede de la biblioteca. La construcción se ha realizado según el proyecto de Salvador Vila, que ha rehabilitado las antiguas dependencias y los ha unido en un edificio de arquitectura actual, buscando la unión perfecta entre ambos. Uno de los aspectos más destacados es la preservación del patrimonio local, puesto que parte de la biblioteca se integra en el edificio que albergó las oficinas de la antigua factoría de Refractarios Españoles SA, muestra singular de la arquitectura industrial del siglo pasado. El pavimento de mosaico de Nolla (empresa Mosaico Nolla) del edificio de Refracta se mantiene intacto, también se ha restaurado la barandilla de madera de la escala principal.
Al exterior, en un pequeño jardín, quedan la báscula que se utilizaba para pesar los camiones y, junto a ella, el edificio en el cual los trabajadores de Refracta dejaban sus chapas identificativas al acabar la jornada como prueba de que habían cumplido el horario. Lo corona una R de hierro que formó parte del letrero original de la fábrica.

The Quart de Poblet Municipal Public Library has almost 62 years of history. It was inaugurated on September 3, 1951, in the premises located at number 1 on Virgen María de Pilar Street, and the project was entrusted to the architect Salvador Pascual. Ten years earlier, Pascual had been in charge of designing the Refracta office building, the library's new headquarters. The construction has been carried out according to the project of Salvador Vila, who has rehabilitated the old rooms and united them in a building with current architecture, seeking the perfect union between them. One of the most notable aspects is the preservation of local heritage, since part of the library is integrated into the building that housed the offices of the old Refractarios Españoles SA factory, a unique example of the industrial architecture of the last century. The Nolla mosaic floor (Mosaico Nolla company) of the Refracta building remains intact, and the wooden railing of the main staircase has also been restored.
Outside, in a small garden, there is the scale that was used to weigh the trucks and, next to it, the building in which the Refracta workers left their identification badges at the end of the day as proof that they had met the schedule. It is crowned by an iron R that was part of the factory's original sign.
