Geocache Description:

This is the 42nd in the Rest 'n Peace Cemetery Series - Centre County. Julian Cemetery, also known as Fair Hill, is an active resting place that was founded at least over 160 years ago and continues to see burials. Many of the stones here are illegible or were never carved, and others have succumbed to gravity and/or erosion and have migrated over the years. Of particular interest are the graves of Mary C. (24 y.o.) and Sadie Sumers (unk. age), relations who perished one day apart in 1886, possibly a young mother during a difficult childbirth. Take note too of the many footstones in the lower portions, a remnant uncommon to find in this area. For military remembrancers, the caretaker of the area also notes that veterans from the American Civil War up to Granada are buried here.

If you choose to tour this unique location, take note of the myriad stones on the periphery that are at the mercy of tree roots and the steep hillside slopes. In the center of the cemetery and on the lowest reaches you can also see forlorn stones that are now ex situ leaning up against trees and fence posts.

To search for relatives buried here, visit this link. As with any cemetery cache, please be respectful of those who are interred here.
