A nice straightforward CITO in partnership with the Cougar Creek Streamkeepers. We will visit this site several times this year as we clear it from invasive species and later on we'll plant native species to rejuvinate the area.
We have two tasks for this event:
- We will be continue to remove ivy from the ground, hillside and tree trunks.
- In additional we'll be clearing out any garbage in the area.
Ivy Removal:
No need to describe this too much other than to mention the hillside is fairly steep in sections so appropriate footwear is essential. e.g. hikers or gum boots. Runners highly not recommended. Please bring your own gloves and clippers if available as we have limted supplies.
We'll be moving all the ivy curbside for the City to collect. In this terrain typically old tarps work best, garbage cans also work, and wheel barrows in a limited capacity. Bring what you can please.
Garbage Removal:
We will clear out any garbage in the area, but be mindful that we cannot take anything out of the stream itself as we could disturb spawning habitat.
CC Streamkeepers will supply:
- gloves (limited availability)
- some clippers, loppers
- tarps
- garbage cans
CO will supply:
What you can bring:
- own gloves
- clippers
- water
- good footwear
- garbage can or old tarp
Site Access: Site is accessed from the trail (closed off road), linking Bates and Blake. Working on east side of trail up into the ravine.
Parking: There is residential street parking available on both Bates Road (North side) and Blake Drive (South side).
