Hokuetsu Boshin Senso Lore Hall
The Nagaoka City Hokuetsu Boshin Senso Lore Museum was opened on May 26, 2012 as a facility that tells the story of the Hokuetsu Boshin Senso as seen from the perspective of the residents of the Shigumi area.
In this region, where the allied forces of the Nagaoka and Aizu clans fought fiercely against the new government forces of the Satsuma and Choshu clans, the museum introduces the nature and history that sustained the residents from a local perspective, and conveys the powerful spirit of the residents who overcame great damage.
We also strive to disseminate information on people from the area, such as Kuwabara Kyuemon, who opened the Fukushima River in response to the requests of local residents suffering from water shortages; the poet Sadashin nun, known for her close friendship with the famous monk Ryokan; and Hasegawa Yasushi, who left great marks as a medical doctor and educator.
北越戊辰戦争伝承館
長岡市北越戊辰戦争伝承館は、新組地域の住民から見た北越戊辰戦争のありさまを伝える施設として、平成24年5月26日に開館しました。
長岡藩や会津藩等の同盟軍と薩摩藩や長州藩等の新政府軍が激しく戦ったこの地域で、住民の心を支えた自然や歴史を地域の目線で紹介し、大きな被害を克服してきた住民の力強い心を伝えます。
水不足に悩む地域住民の要望に応えて福島江を開削した桑原久右衛門や名僧良寛との厚い親交でも知られる歌人貞心尼、医学者・教育者として偉大な足跡を残した長谷川泰等、地域出身人物の情報発信にも努めています。
