Located just off the trail, between two bridges, at the physical boundary of the Hatchett's Hill Preserve.
Hatchetts Hill Preserve, part of the Old Lyme Land Trust, is a serene and accessible natural haven perfect for visitors of all ages and abilities. This 44-acre preserve offers an easy hiking experience through lush woods filled with tulip poplars, oaks, beeches, and maples. The flat terrain and well-marked blue trail make it ideal for a leisurely walk.
A highlight of the preserve is Armstrong Brook, which you can cross while enjoying the sounds of peepers and other amphibians, especially vibrant in the spring. The brook meanders south from Hatchetts Hill, eventually reaching Long Island Sound. This preserve, acquired in 2013 with the help of a DEEP Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition grant, is part of a larger network of protected spaces, ensuring the conservation of local wildlife and natural beauty.
Visitors can find a small parking area accommodating 3-4 cars, making it a convenient spot for a quick escape into nature. Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, birdwatching, or a place to enjoy the beauty of Connecticut's native flora, Hatchetts Hill Preserve is a wonderful destination.
