Wombwell Library is a special location because it is a Carnegie Library.
It was built in 1905 with funding from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, who paid for 2,509 new libraries to be constructed worldwide. Many of these Carnegie buildings have been repurposed, so Barnsley is lucky to have one of the few Carnegie libraries still functioning to its original purpose.
