7 Mile Loop Crystal River Preserve State Park
Mountain bikes or fat tire bikes (or just your own two feet) are perfect for this trail, the longest unpaved loop in Citrus County, Florida. Starting out on the western section, you’ll cross over three tidal creeks - Deer Creek, King Creek and Dolphin Creek - where you can witness the beginnings of the estuary food chain. Dogs on a leash are allowed and you are to pick up after your pet. The trail is open from 8 a.m. until sundown, 365/366 days a year. There are no fees required to park at the trailhead or to hike/bike/Geocache on the trail. There are a few benches along the trail along with some shady stretches.
There are signs posted at the trailhead reminding you about the following: #1 = The 7 Mile loop trail is subject to flooding. #2 = There are no Restroom facilities at the trailhead or on the trail. #3 = There is no drinking water available at the trailhead or along the trail. Also, remember, this is Florida, there are dangerous critters and plants you should avoid, Oh, there is also a plethora of flying things that will bite, poke and/or sting you, so remember your bug spray along with your sun block (the Florida sun can be brutal), water and snacks (Cache in – Trash out). NOTE: No recent Skunk Ape siting’s/encounters have been reported in this area.
