Geocache Description:

The earliest known mention of ____________ dates back from 1315, in the records of Westminster Abbey. At that time it was known as 'Tilhurst' which is an Anglo Saxon name suggesting that it was already an ancient wood.

____________ was historically called Tyler's Wood and Wolf's Wood. The wood provided timber, firewood, and charcoal for centuries. In 1993, it was purchased by the Essex Wildlife Trust and is now managed as a nature reserve.

____________ was described in books as a "wild and lawless place: both travellers and local inhabitants had to endure thieves and highwaymen," and "a hotbed of lawlessness right down to living memory."

____________ is a 79.4 acre (32.13 hectare) wood that straddles the parishes of Thundersley and Hadleigh. It was formerly owned by the Dean and Chapter of St. Paul's Cathedral.

The name ____________ comes from an area called 'Belfants' or 'Belfans', which was named after Alan Belefant, a military engineer who worked on belfries. In the 13th century, he was responsible for managing an area of woodland that provided timber for construction projects.

____________, formerly known as Cottage Plantation, was bought by Essex Wildlife Trust in 2013 thanks to a donation from the Wells family and is named after a former Mayor of Castle Point.

____________ is probably a blend of 'starve,' indicating hardship, and 'larks,' referring to the melodious songbirds that inhabit the area. There is no definite source to back this claim though. It is consisted mainly sweet chestnut and is probably a 19th century plantation that has been under coppice management.

____________ is home to a venerable hornbeam, estimated to be over 400 years old

____________ was rebuilt in 2012 because the original building, which started as a WW1 army hut, had fallen over.
