Put on some shoes you don’t mind getting wet, and head out along the Terrace Loop. Take a short walk out to the cache, or take a 2-mile hike around the full Terrace Loop. You can often hear pileated woodpeckers, or find ephemeral wildflowers along the edges of this trail. Take a gander looking for mushrooms on fallen logs, and check for insects like the caddisfly nymph stuck to rocks in the water. Bring a pencil just in case.
Putting on the GeoTrail every year takes a lot of work, and we couldn't do it without the help from the geocaching community. Thanks to Barkie & Tick Magnet for helping us look after this cache!
If one of your sticks, stones or leaves start walking away in your hands, you might have found one of the coolest critters in the creek! Caddisfly larva are well known for their ability to create tubes that they can hide in. Much like spiders, they can spin silk to hold together small particles for their mobile house. The larva stay in the water for about a year, then spend roughly a month as an aerial adult.
