Bannock State Park is a National Historic Landmark. It was the site of Montana's first major gold discovery on July 28, 1862. Bannack's population was over 3000 by 1863. It was the capital of Montana Territory briefly in 1864 until the capital was moved to Virginia City. When the price of gold went down, Bannack's population moved on. There are over 50 buildings lining Main Street.
Come explore Bannack and let's chat about geocaching. We will meet at the Saloon at high noon.
There is camping within the park. Nearest food and gas is in Dillon about a half an hour away. If you are from out-of-state there is an $8 fee per vehicle or $4 as a walk-in.
