Geocache Description:

“When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.”

The beginning lines of a poem written by Jenny Joseph in 1961 that has become something of an anthem for women specifically and for men generally who may look on their youth and think about having some fun doing what’s unexpected of someone grown old.

The actual title of the piece is “Warning”, a warning from someone who may look to be exhibiting bazaar behavior now but is simply practicing for those coming elderly years.

And what kind of behavior? Here’s a partial list. For the whole list read the whole poem.

-buying satin slippers with the butter money

-wearing those slippers in the rain

-picking flowers from a neighbor’s garden

Those who could be considered to be of an age when such behavior would be somewhat scandalous could take a line from the poem. “But maybe I ought to practice a little now?”  Hmmmm.

The street is sometimes fairly busy so be careful and mindful cars and of people walking by on the sidewalk.

Be aware of the usual suspects in the desert; things that bite, sting, scratch, poke, etc.  Uneven ground can make secure footing a concern. Step carefully. Always a good idea to bring some water along.  Please do not try to remove the cache container from the host.
