Geocache Description:

This cache was placed for the Fraser Valley Cache Bash 7

Welcome to the Welcome To Series - a series of caches hidden in locations I remember growing up in this area.

Welcome to the Ruskin Townsite

This neighbourhood was built in 1922 to house workers while the Ruskin Dam was being built for the BC Electric Company.  Employees lived here until 1962 when the houses were sold back to the public.  The residents living in the homes were given the first option to buy.  There is one original family still living here from that time.

In the early days this park was a lawn bowling green. Party's were held for the workers and their families on special occasions.    Around 1959, Mrs. Pat Mantle opened a preschool in the north east corner of the park.  Everyone came here for preschool travelling from Whonnock and Mission.  The preschool fell into disrepair and was torn down in the early 1980s as the cost of bringing it up to code was too expensive.  There are no signs left of it anymore.

The fenced parking lot used to house a carpenter's shop used by BC Hydro.  It took up the entire parking lot.  It was torn down around 1991.

In the Fall, the road along here is filled with cars from all the fisherman trying their luck catching the spawning salmon. There are 100 of cars parked along the side of the road.  This is the reason for all of the no parking signs although it is NOT enforced.

Please use stealth.  Try to be as gentle with the cache itself.  You will know it when you see it.
