Number 5 in my Play it Loud Series - Mr. Brighside by The Killers. The song is from the band's debut album, Hot Fuss. Mr. Brightside was the 1st single released by the band and reached #10 on the charts in the US & UK. The song is so popular in the UK that it has a record-setting run of over 390 weeks on the UK Singles Chart and is the most streamed song in the UK since 2010. It is Spotify's 3rd most downloaded song of the 2000s.
Mr. Brightside was written by original band members Brandon Flowers (Keyboards & Lead Singer) and Dave Kuening (Lead Guitarist). Kuening wrote the music before meeting Flowers, who wrote the lyrics. Drummer Ronnie Vannucci added the driving beat which capped off the final product. Mr. Brighside has become an anthem in Las Vegas, where the band is from, and in the UK. It is The Killer's most popular song and is a staple in concert. It was the final encore, on October 9th, 2023 when The Killers played in Cleveland. I was lucky enough to see the show with one of my kids. It was a great concert. Johnny Marr, of the Smiths, opened and played some songs with The Killers including Mr. Brightside. Along with the great music, there were strobes, lasers, streamers, and confetti cannons. The band was tight and the crowd was into it from the beginning. It was great being there with my daughter especially watching and listening to her rock out during Mr. Brightside.
