Wegener Brewing Company
Wegener Brewing Company started to operate in 1864 and it was the first brewery in Utah. You are standing almost directly above its historic location. The brewery was located at the mouth of Emigration Canyon on the North side of the road across from Rotary Glen. Originally it was known as California Brewery until 1894 when it was renamed Wegener Brewing Company.
The brewery was connected to the Salt Lake & Fort Dougas railroad line. The line supplied the brewery with coal, barley, kegs and bottles. Railroad service to the brewery ended in 1897. The Emigration Canyon Railroad opened in 1907 and it had a station at the brewery. Soon resort opened close to the brewery.
The brewery was destroyed by fire in 1915 and parts of its assets were sold to Fisher Brewing Company.
There is a stone necklace (made by Ribizli) for the FTF in the cahce.
